Since 1983, Hesed House has served as a national model for not only sheltering and caring for the most marginalized individuals and families in our communities, but, more importantly, developing programs that provide the skills and services to transition them back into homes. That successful model includes multiple collaborations with other social service agencies whose experts work on-site at Hesed House under one roof with the Hesed House Case Management Team. These collaborations more efficiently address the issues that are tying an individual to homelessness and aggressively develop and implement a plan to overcome those barriers.

With a new homeless person arriving at Hesed House’s door every 8 hours, having the financial wherewithal to welcome and minister to them becomes increasingly difficult.

Bridging the Gap

It takes $1, 188 in donations to help a single homeless individual go from the worst day of his or her life (the day of becoming homeless) to the best day of his or her life (the day of moving back into housing). During that time, that person will receive food, clothing, shelter and access to the services needed to get out of homelessness (such as case management, job training, counseling, legal services, medical services, etc.).

Phase 1 – Conduct an Accurate Assessment
In addition to providing food and shelter to our guests, a comprehensive intake and assessment is performed when they first arrive. This includes obtaining a credit report and assessing education level and job skills.
